All specimens submitted for testing or analysis to Bio-Gene Diagnostic Laboratory are received by Specimen Management Department. Specimens received are given a unique identifying number that will accompany the specimen through all phases of testing or analysis and allow for tracking of the specimen through the clinical laboratory. Processing of specimens, aliquoting, and all necessary pre-analytical variables such as proper specimen type and quantity are assessed in this area.
The Referral Laboratory department / Specimen Management handles all specimens that are also received from other laboratories for referral testing. This includes completing any referral laboratory-specific test request forms, processing of the sample according to the instructions of the testing facility, and packaging for transportation. Additionally, this area ensures that the referral test orders and specimens are analyzed following appropriate quality management systems.
